The project was created in response to two major challenges facing Europe today: the growing sense of disconnection many citizens feel from political decision-making processes, and the climate crisis, one of the defining issues of our time.

Citizens for Climate brings these two challenges together by strengthening democracy through the promotion of meaningful citizen participation in climate policymaking. The project is built on the belief that climate policies are most effective when they are shaped with the active involvement of the people they directly affect.

Sharing Best Practices

The project identifies, examines, and promotes inspiring examples of climate assemblies, citizens’ initiatives, and other participatory mechanisms that give people a genuine voice in environmental decision-making.

Inclusiveness

All project activities are designed to be open, accessible, and inclusive, with a particular focus on engaging groups that are often underrepresented in political processes.

Expected Results

A key tangible outcome of the project will be the Climate Participation Booklet – a practical guide featuring a collection of best practices, lessons learned, and recommendations to support democratic climate governance across Europe.
