The energy transition is not an ideological choice – it is a prerequisite for long-term security and resilience. Poland remains heavily dependent on fossil fuels. According to Forum Energii, as recently as 2025, approximately 85% of the country’s primary energy supply came from coal, oil, and natural gas.

At the same time, the transition must be fair and inclusive. This means protecting households from energy poverty, supporting regions that rely on declining industries, investing in workers’ skills and retraining, and developing stable, locally sourced energy systems. Research by the Polish Economic Institute has shown that, depending on the methodology used, energy poverty affects anywhere from several to several dozen percent of households in Poland.

An effective transition is one that lowers costs, strengthens national resilience, and provides people with a sense of security about the future. A just transition is one in which no individual, family, or community is left to bear the burden of change alone.
